Friday's NWSL matchup between Angel City FC and the Washington Spirit at Washington D.C.'s Audi Field featured some league history, courtesy of Gisele and Alyssa Thompson.
With Angel City holding a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute, Alyssa Thompson ran down a long pass from Alanna Kennedy then set up Gisele Thompson on a cross in front of the net. Gisele then jumped to flick in her first professional goal.

The score was the first in which sisters combined for a goal in NWSL history. Angel City went on to win the match, 4-3, boosting its record to 3-2-2.
"I'm so happy we got the win and the sister-to-sister goal," Gisele said afterward, via Pro Soccer Wire. "We've always dreamed about this, especially in this high [level] of football. Doing it together is amazing, and getting my first goal was just so incredible."
This is the second historical achievement for the Thompson sisters in 2025. In February, they became the second pair of sisters to start a game for the U.S. Women's National Team, joining Kristie and Sam Mewis, in its 2-1 victory over Australia in the SheBelieves Cup.
Alyssa Thompson's assist on her sister's goal was her second of the season to go with three goals in Angel City's first six matches of the season.
The Spirit tied the game at 2-2 before halftime on goals by Esme Morgan in the 30th minute and Gift Monday in the 40th. Katie Zelem gave Angel City a 3-2 lead in the 72nd minute, but Washington tied the score again on Morgan's second goal of the match.
Angel City ultimately prevailed on Riley Tiernan's second goal of the match, scoring in the eighth minute of stoppage time.

The Thompson sisters became teammates when Gisele signed with Angel City in December 2023. Alyssa was the team's No. 1 draft pick (first overall) in January of the same year and signed a three-year contract extension earlier this year. Gisele agreed to a two-year extension.
The only other pair of sisters that played together on a NWSL team were Tori and Maddie Huster, who were briefly teammates on the Spirit in 2018 but never combined on a goal. The Mewis sisters both played in the NWSL, but never on the same team.
