Georgia Commit Under Fire For Texas Comment After Snubbing Longhorns

Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has shown his ability to recruit in-state, with their biggest addition in the 2026 class being four-star EDGE Jermaine Bishop, who's the No. 11 player in Texas.

However, there's a good amount of players they've lost out on, including four-star cornerback Chace Calicut, who took an official visit with the Longhorns on June 20 and named them a finalist, along with Georgia and Michigan.

On June 27, he pledged himself to the Bulldogs, where he's set to play under head coach Kirby Smart.

On Thursday, in a social media post, he seemingly took a shot at the Longhorns, saying "The best in Texas leaves Texas. Remember that! #GoDawgs," while wearing a Georgia uniform.

The post has since caught the attention of many Texas fans, who have not shied away from voicing their displeasure toward Calicut.

"Ah yes burn bridges. That won’t come back to bite you eventually," said one comment.

"Ones that leave texas for georgia end up transferring after 1-2 years. Remember that #TexasForever," said another.

"Don’t understand the concept of hating where your home state," a third added.

A fourth stated, "You're a clown chasing a bag. Means you have no loyalty."

"Says nobody. Real Texans play for teams in there state," a fifth continued.

"I get looking for clicks from the Georgia fans but this is just simply not true," said another.

Luckily for Texas, things are trending in the right direction for several other players, as the On3 recruiting prediction machine gives them a chance to land three top-10 in-state prospects.

That includes five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo (No. 1) at 70.9%, four-star interior offensive lineman John Turntine (No. 4) at 96.6% and finally four-star EDGE Jamarion Carlton (No. 5) at 97%.
