The Ole Miss men's basketball team had a historic campaign during the 2024-25 season. They reached the Regional Semifinals of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in over twenty years, beating programs like Iowa State and North Carolina along the way.
Plenty of credit goes to second-year head coach Chris Beard for this program's turnaround, but Virginia Tech transfer Sean Pedulla was just as much responsible for the Rebels' success.
Pedulla was a third-team All-SEC honoree this season after leading the team in scoring and assists with 15.4 and 3.8 per game, respectively.
With Pedulla now graduated and out of NCAA eligibility, he spent the last few months preparing for the NBA Draft.
While Pedulla was a long shot to be drafted, given he is an undersized guard at 6-foot-1, he strengthened his case with several strong performances during the pre-draft circuit. He still ultimately went undrafted, but his career is not over.
On Friday, according to Jon Chepkevich, Pedulla earned a contract with the Portland Trailblazers. He signed an Exhibit-10 contract, which is a one-year contract of the NBA's minimum salary, none of which is guaranteed.
This kind of deal is typically given to a player who the team expects to be on a two-way contract with the G-League, or a player seen to be on more of a tryout basis.
During March Madness, Pedulla was one of the most exciting spectacles in the country. He scored 20 or more points in each of the team's three games, including a 24-point performance against North Carolina in the Sweet 16.
He also averaged 5.3 assists per contest in the Big Dance and had a 20-point, eight-assist, four-steal outing against Iowa State in the Round of 32.
Pedulla is far from a lock to make the Trailblazers' roster, but the team had a losing record of 36-46 last season, so perhaps they could employ the talents of a do-it-all guard like the former Ole Miss Rebel.
