Antonio “AB” Brown said he was involved in an altercation at a Miami boxing event, during which gunshots were allegedly fired.

The former NFL star claimed the ordeal began when he was “jumped” in an attempt to steal his jewelry. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. local time on Saturday, May 17, after a boxing event hosted by streamer Adin Ross, as captured by witnesses from several angles in footage shared online.

The Miami Police Department (MPD) received a report of gunfire at the scene, a spokesperson for the organization confirmed to PEOPLE.

In one video captured by a streamer at the event, the retired wide receiver, 36, can be seen throwing punches in an altercation with several individuals in what appeared to be a parking lot. Brown then broke away from the group and fell alongside another man — later identified as a security guard, whom he then kicked.

“Boy, that’s security, AB!” the streamer yelled in the video.

The action then moved to an alley near the parking lot, with Brown seen running toward a group of people while appearing to carry something in his hand, footage shows. Seconds later, sounds resembling two gunshots can be heard, and the crowd scattered. It is unclear who fired the shots.

In other angles of the incident, bystanders reacted. “Oh my God, he has a gun,” one individual said in a clip seconds before the gunshots rang out.

A different video shows Brown in handcuffs with police officers, though no arrests were made, Miami Police confirmed.

Brown later addressed the incident while appearing on Ross’ Kick livestream the same day. “I got CTE, I blacked out,” he said on the stream. “I blacked out, Adin. I don’t know what happened."

He also commented on the altercation in a May 17 post on X “regarding the boxing event that happened last night.”

“I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me,” Brown wrote. “Contrary to some video circulating, Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED.”

The former football pro went on to say that he “will be talking to my legal council and attorneys” about pressing charges against the people who “jumped” him.

“I will keep you all posted step-by-step on the process,” he concluded the post. “Thank you for the support and love #AB#84🏈🙏🏾.”

A spokesperson for the MPD could not confirm the identities of any individuals at the scene of the altercation, but they said officers arrived on the scene following a report of shots fired.

Officers on the scene “initiated an investigation, which included canvassing the area and interviewing several individuals,” the spokesperson said, adding that nobody was injured in the incident.

The MPD is still investigating the incident.
