Fever Coach Stephanie White Facing Backlash After Latest Caitlin Clark Injury

Jul 15, 2025 11:07 PM EDT

Tuesday’s matchup against the Connecticut Sun came with some good news and some bad.

On the positive side, the Fever ran their win streak to three with an 85-77 victory, keyed by a 20-point performance from Kelsey Mitchell and a double-double from Natasha Howard (18 points, 13 rebounds).

The bad news is the win may have cost the Fever star guard Caitlin Clark, who pulled up in the final minute of the fourth quarter with an apparent groin injury (again). Clark was seen on the sidelines after feeding Mitchell on a layup with a towel over her head fighting back tears.

A video of the moment Clark suffered the injury was posted on the espnW X account, and it appeared as if it happened in a non-contact situation. Clark drove toward the basket, backing off Suns guard Leila Lacan before she planted her feet, shifting her weight, and sending a pass Mitchell’s way as she headed under the basket.

Fans were in shock after watching the replay of Clark’s injury, many of whom took to social media to make it known exactly how they felt about head coach Stephanie White leaving Clark in the game up seven with 40 seconds left.

“Should’ve never even been in they was up she didn’t need to be out there till the end for the Sun,” one fan wrote.

“Why didn’t the coach take her out of the game. At that point the game was over …” another fan asked.

“Your franchise player is bouncing back from an injury. Do you play her extended minutes deep into the 4th quarter against the league’s worst team? Or do you do literally anything else? Unserious,” a third fan scoffed.

“Why was she even in at this point. SMH these coaches don’t think. She’s still newly back from injury. Insane,” one user exclaimed.

“Should have taken her out earlier. I pray she is OK and did not tear anything,” another user sneered.

Clark finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and a steal in 28 minutes. It was the fourth straight game she registered double-digit points and six or more assists.
