Fever Coach Fails to Hold Back Caitlin Clark, Sophie Cunningham

Aug 11, 2025 9:43 PM EDT

There was a lot to be happy about for the Indiana Fever on Saturday as they took down their biggest rivals, the Chicago Sky. It was a crucial win for a shorthanded Fever side that had just lost Aari McDonald and Sydney Colson to season-ending injuries, while also dealing with Caitlin Clark’s extended absence.

Despite their dire situation, the Fever still came through to blow out the Sky at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, 92-70, improving to 4-0 against their rivals this season.

Clark missed her 10th straight game on Saturday due to a lingering groin injury, but it did not stop her from passionately supporting her teammates from the bench.

In the video below, Clark and Cunningham can be seen celebrating on the court prematurely, even before the final buzzer. The game was won at that point, but Fever assistant coach Karima Christmas-Kelly was calling both players back to the bench, presumably to prevent a potential violation for entering the basketball court while the game was still active.

Cunningham ran back to the bench when she heard the assistant coach’s instructions. Clark, on the other hand, carried on and even seemed to gesture at the coaching staff after hearing the final whistle. Either way, the pair ended up staying on the court as the buzzer sounded.

Clark and Cunningham proceeded to hype up their teammates as they all met at center court to celebrate their big win.

The Fever will want to keep this momentum going in their next game as they take on Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings on Tuesday. Clark is not expected to suit up for that one either, which means that Cunningham and the rest of the squad will need to work extra hard again to secure their second straight win.
