In the third round of the NFL Draft, the Patriots found a deep threat for Drake Maye.

Kyle Williams from Washington State was one of the best wideouts in the country at beating man coverage last season, scoring an NCAA-best nine touchdowns against man and racking up 505 receiving yards vs. the coverage.

On a conference call after being drafted by New England at No. 69 overall, Williams was asked how he’d characterize his game.

“I would describe it as versatile, game-changing, and electric,” Williams said.

Williams is a 5-foot-10, 190-pounder that runs a 4.40 second 40-yard dash. As a senior, he caught 70 passes for 1,198 yards and 14 touchdowns, and had a reception of 30+ yards in nine games for the Cougars.

As for his prowess against man coverage, Williams pointed to the homework he does.

“Just constant film study. Always perfecting the game, I mean, my craft,” Williams said. “I take pride in my craft. I feel like it’s an art. So, you have to really take pride in art, you have to be attention to detail, you have to worry about the little things, and I worry about those small little details and I try to correct them and match them to my game.”

After selecting Williams in the third round, executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf was pleased to have the explosive wideout aboard.

“Had a really productive junior year when Cam Ward was quarterback (at Washington State), and then continued that on this year,” Wolf said. “He’s fast, can play outside and inside, really good with the ball in his hands. For an undersized guy, he’s really tough. He doesn’t shy away from anything. He can block. Had the opportunity to visit with him on his (Top) 30 visit here, and he really has a great personality, and we’re excited about what he’s going to add from that perspective.”
