E3 must institute snapback sanctions on Iran 'without delay,' Crown Prince Pahlavi argues

Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi argued that delaying implementing the sanctions would only "help the world's foremost state sponsor of terrorism," in a post on his personal X/Twitter.

The E3 (UK, France, and Germany) must reinstitute "snapback mechanism" sanctions on Iran "without further delay," Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi said on Wednesday.

Pahlavi argued that delaying implementing the sanctions would only "help the world's foremost state sponsor of terrorism," in a post on his personal X/Twitter.

The Iranian regime "will not change with yet another meeting," he argued.

Tehran's nuclear "extortion has held the world hostage for decades," a statement from Pahlavi's office argued, adding that the time to hold Iran fully accountable for sponsoring terrorism across the world is "now."

Pahlavi also argued that Iran is using the current nuclear negotiations with the E3 to "ensure more delays, more confusion, and, ultimately, to buy more time to achieve its nuclear ambitions."

Iran refuses to abandon nuclear enrichments and continues to block International Atomic Energy Agency inspections, he argued.

Pahlavi also claimed that Iran is exploring "the procurement of nuclear weapons from foreign suppliers."

E3 to reinstate snapback sanctions, officials tell 'Post'

The E3 is expected to initiate a process on Thursday to reinstate UN sanctions against Iran through the "snapback mechanism," European officials told The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday.

Once announced, a 30-day period will go into effect during which the mechanism can be halted. If it is not stopped, all sanctions imposed on Iran in 2015 will be reinstated.

European nations are demanding that Iran resume negotiations for a new nuclear agreement and grant access to all nuclear sites, including uranium stockpiles damaged during the war with Israel.

Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Tuesday that Tehran told Europe's top three powers the revival of the "snapback" mechanism, re-imposing UN sanctions on Iran, will have consequences.

Baghaei said Tehran told Europeans during a meeting in Geneva they do not have the right to trigger the mechanism, adding both sides would continue nuclear talks in the coming days.

Senior officials from Iran and Europe's top three powers met in Geneva on Tuesday to discuss the Westerners' demand that Iran revive nuclear inspections and diplomacy or face the reimposition of sanctions that were lifted under a 2015 deal.

Amichai Stein and Reuters contributed to this report.
