Ribs with a side of potato salad? Yes, please. A burger with a side of bug bites? We're ... gonna pass. As delicious as grilled foods are, preparing them often involves swatting away mosquitoes, not to mention standing near hot coals on an already scorching day. Sure, one could argue that the promise of a perfectly charred steak is worth enduring itchy skin and a sweat-soaked T-shirt, but there's a better way. The Ninja Foodi Smart XL Grill is designed for indoor use, so you can enjoy your favorite warm-weather foods (and more) from the comfort of your air-conditioned kitchen. And it's not just a grill; it also functions as an air fryer, dehydrator — but before we dive into its many uses, we'd be remiss not to mention that it's currently a rare 40% off at Amazon. Hot diggity dog!
Attention, full-sized oven: We appreciate you, but your services are not needed at this time.
Why is it a good deal? 💰
According to our price trackers, this is as low as this grill has dipped since Black Friday (even then, it was only $10 less). And while it might seem a little pricey, even with the discount, it's essentially multiple appliances in one — and many reviewers say they use it more than their regular ovens.
Why do I need this? 🤔
There's no shortage of indoor grills or air fryers on the market, but the Ninja Foodi combines the best of both worlds, and then some. While it comes with a removable grill grate that'll give your meats and veggies those satisfying char lines, it also includes a 4-quart crisper basket and cooking pot (all are PFOA/PTFE-free). That means you can use it for roasting, baking, broiling and dehydrating, and there's even a built-in thermometer to take the guesswork out of knowing when your food is done.
The word "smart" in its name isn't a throwaway, either; a digital display allows you to program it via four protein settings and nine doneness settings, whether you prefer your meat on the rare side or medium-well. One of its most beloved features, however, is the smoke control system, which helps prevent your kitchen from smelling like a chimney.
While it'll certainly come in handy during the summer when heating up the house with the regular oven is the last thing you want to do, it's also ideal for times of year when a grilled-food craving strikes and it's too cold to cook outside.
Want to prepare grub for a crowd this season? No sweat — literally. (Amazon)
What reviewers say 💬
Amazon customers are fired up over this machine's versatility, cooking settings and lack of smoke.
Pros 👍
"Best appliance ever," raved a happy home cook. "Using it does not heat up the house, and when grilling, it doesn't fill the room with smoke."
"I love to grill outdoors, but no longer have the space or the inclination," shared another. "This thing grills, roasts, bakes, air fries, anything you put it in perfectly. I use it almost every single day, and three of my friends got one after coming over for dinner. Easy cooking, easy cleaning and more than worth the price."
"You don't have to worry about [the] weather whatsoever and can still grill an awesome steak," wrote a third. "Pre-set cooking temps are great; you may have to go up or down one level depending on what 'medium rare' means to you, but ultimately, after one time cooking on this thing, you'll have it dialed in. Great for air frying as well ... [it] will help you get those wings, hashbrowns, etc. really crispy, as many air fryers do not go this high."
Cons 👎
"I love this grill, however, I don't love cleaning the top," admitted a generally satisfied shopper. "[It's] hard to get it clean and keep it clean. Love the preset for meat, comes out perfectly every time. The inside of the machine is a breeze to clean. Great size."
Speaking of size, you'll want to make sure your kitchen has ample room. "So much more versatile than the drawer-type of air fryer, but it does take up some space," noted a final fan. "I am surprised by how yummy fish filets turn out. Frozen sweet potato fries are so much better than in the oven. I could go on and on..."
According to the brand, this bad boy can fit up to six steaks or two dozen hot dogs at a time!
Speaking of kitchen multitaskers...
I own this multi-use, nonstick beauty, and it just might become your most-utilized piece of cookware, thanks to its thoughtful design. It took the internet by storm a few years ago and quickly became a favorite of home cooks and celebrities alike. (Selena Gomez did a collaboration with the brand, and Oprah has called it "the kitchen magician.")
Its ceramic coating is slick and free of PFAS, while the handle smartly doubles as a spoon rest. Speaking of utensils, it comes with a wooden spatula and metal steamer basket that can be used as a colander, and it's oven-safe up to 450°F for added versatility. It's not often on sale, so grab it while it's $25 off.
