Deion Sanders chooses Colorado's starting quarterback for Week 4, but won't reveal his pick

Colorado head coach Deion Sanders is searching for consistency at the team's most important position. Through three games, three quarterbacks have seen time with the Buffaloes. With none of those players distancing themselves from the pack, Sanders needs to figure out which player to go with in Week 4 against Wyoming.

The good news? He's already made that decision. The bad news? He's not willing to share which player will start under center Saturday.

When asked whether he's selected a Week 4 starter Tuesday, Sanders simply said, "Yeah, most definitely I have." He did not elaborate.

Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter started the team's first two games of the season, but didn't impress in his early opportunities. Through two games, Salter has one passing touchdown and no interceptions. He's shown some ability as a dual-threat, scoring two rushing touchdowns in his starts.

That wasn't good enough for Sanders, who benched Salter during the team's 31-7 win over Delaware in Week 2. Ryan Staub can on in relief of Salter and threw two touchdowns in the win.

That was enough to elevate Staub into the starting role for the team's Week 3 game against Houston. Staub failed to build on his promising Week 2 performance. Against Houston, he completed just 54.3 percent of his passes, throwing one touchdown against two interceptions.

In addition to Salter and Staub, the team also has five-star freshman Julian Lewis, who threw two passes in Colorado's Week 2 win over Delaware. Given the team's struggles, could Lewis get the keys to the offense just a few games into his tenure with the Buffaloes?

Sanders won't reveal that information yet, but it shouldn't be long before fans find out the answer. Sanders played coy about the team's starter ahead of Week 3, but it was eventually leaked ahead of that game that Staub was taking the majority of first-team snaps in practice. The same scenario could play out before Colorado takes the field Saturday against Wyoming.

It's been a disappointing start for the Buffaloes this season. After going 9-4 last season, Colorado finds itself at 1-2 to start the 2025 season. Significant talent left the team in the offseason, with both quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way star Travis Hunter making the leap to the NFL.

While Hunter was the bigger loss, Shedeur's absence left a massive void at quarterback. Through three games, no player has emerged as a clear leader at the position, forcing Deion is make some tough decisions just weeks into the season.
