Dallas Cowboys guard Tyler Booker may be a rookie, but he's intent on showing he deserves to be starting.
Dallas Cowboys' rookie guard Tyler Booker might be a first-round pick, but the Alabama stud isn't taking anything for granted.
Seen by most as a player who will slot straight into Zack Martin's right guard spot alongside Cooper Beebe and Terence Steele, Booker has all the talent and leadership qualities that lend him to be a shoo-in as a starter for Brian Schottenheimer.
However, Booker, as most now know, is wired a little differently than others. Yes, he was drafted in the first round and is seen as a Day 1 starter, but he still has to show he is worthy of a starting role for Dallas.
And he knows the key to making sure that is a mere formality.
“Just making sure you know everything that you're supposed to in the playbook, having a mastery of the playbook, and also making sure that your technique is really good,” Booker said. “This something I learned at the O-line Masterminds that my coach Duke [Manyweather] put on.
"Just listening to him and all the other NFL legends they talk about how you have to take advantage of walkthroughs and even though you're not able to make contact a lot, you have to take advantage of you have to make sure you're overexaggerating your technique so when the bullets are flying you're ready to go.”
With Booker's first day of rookie mini camp in the books, which was largely walkthroughs due to the NFL's CBA, Tyler still made sure to get the most out of it as he looks to hit the ground running in his first NFL offseason.
Having done a power of work to get here from high school through to college, it is clear that Booker understands that he is now back at square one in the NFL - he must show he deserves to be a Dallas Cowboy.
Yes, he has said all the right things since being drafted, but as we know, talk is cheap; people want to see it in action.
And based on how his first day of mini camp went, Booker isn't just talking the talk, he's hellbent on walking the walk too.
