The Washington Commanders made the decision in August to trade away Brian Robinson Jr., feeling good about its RB depth and feeling it could recoup value for a guy in the final year of his contract.
The depth is being tested now, though, after Austin Ekeler's season ended with a torn Achilles in Week 2.
The Commanders are trying to make up for that a bit with a new signing.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Commanders have signed Chase Edmonds to their practice squad.

Edmonds has played in 83 NFL games.
He was originally a fourth-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals out of Fordham.
The 5-foot-9 Edmonds spent his first four seasons with the Cardinals.
In that time, he totaled 333 carries for 1,551 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 4.7 yards per carry.
Edmonds also caught 128 passes across his four seasons with the Cardinals for 921 yards and five more scores.
In the 2020 season, he had 53 catches.
Edmonds left the Cardinals after the 2021 season for the Miami Dolphins, for whom he played eight games before finishing out the 2022 season with five more games with the Denver Broncos.
In 2023, Edmonds appeared in 13 games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He was with the Bucs again for the 2024 season but got injured in August and was placed on the IR for the whole season.
Edmonds became a free agent officially in March of this year, and he hadn't signed with anyone until the Commanders got him on this contract on Monday.
Washington still has Jacory "Bill" Croskey-Merritt, Chris Rodriguez Jr. and Jeremy McNichols.
But Ekeler was the best passing back of the bunch, which is now likely true of Edmonds, so there's a chance he eventually gets a chance as a third-down back for the Commanders.
