Commanders get troubling Jayden Daniels injury update

The Washington Commanders were outplayed by the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football and dropped to 1-1 as they came up short against a fellow NFC contender.

But there is more bad news on the way with quarterback Jayden Daniels needing an MRI on his knee, and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport has revealed a knee sprain for No. 5.

However, that isn't all.

With the Commanders coming off a loss, it is ideal for Dan Quinn's team to get back on the winner's list in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders, but according to Rapoport, Daniels could be in doubt.

"Jayden Daniels has a knee sprain, relatively minor knee sprain, but that is what the MRI revealed," Rapoport said. "Our understanding is that the team is expected to be cautious. Would not be surprised at all if he did not play this week. I'm told his status is in doubt against the Raiders."

Commanders fine without Jayden Daniels?

The backup quarterback position is seen by some as one of the most important in football, and luckily for offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, he has one of the better ones in Marcus Mariota.

Having stepped in at times last season for Daniels, Mariota can easily win you a game or two, and if the Commanders, as Rapoport suggests, play the cautious game with Daniels, it will be Mariota who will suit up in Week 3.

Of course, there is still plenty of time for Daniels to recover in time, but given how early it is in the season, we don't see a need to rush Jayden back.

And we think the Commanders might feel the same.
