Chelsea have been handed a boost ahead of their huge clash against Manchester United on Friday night at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues still have Champions League qualification in their own hands despite slipping to a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle on Sunday.
Chelsea remain in the fifth and final Champions League spot ahead of Aston Villa on goal difference, and know they must win their last two games against United and Forest to guarantee a return to Europe’s Premier club competition.
Yoro and De Ligt to miss Chelsea clash
The pressure is now really on and Enzo Maresca knows there is no margin for error as the season comes to an end.
Chelsea don’t have the best record against the Red Devils, but triumphed 4-3 in an incredible game last season at Stamford Bridge with Cole Palmer scoring a hat-trick.
United are languishing in 16th, although they have made the Europa League final which is just five days after their trip to London.
Maresca’s men will be favourites for the game with United likely to field a weakened side as they think about their Europa League final against Tottenham.
However, the Blues have been handed a boost after Ruben Amorim confirmed both Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt won’t travel to London.
‘I don’t know if they are going to be available (Europa League final), we are going to push,” he said as cited by Manchester United reporter Nathan Salt on X.com.
“They will not go to Chelsea but they will have a possibility.”
Jackson and Sancho missing
Whilst United missing two of their first choice defenders is obviously a boost, Chelsea have their own issues in attack.
Nicolas Jackson is suspended following his red card against Newcastle, whilst Jadon Sancho is ineligible due to the conditions of his loan.
That means Tyrique George will likely start and Pedro Neto could once again be deployed down the middle like earlier in the season.
Marc Guiu is back in individual training but it’s unlikely he’ll make the squad, and Chelsea are without a striker for their most important game of the season.
