Caitlin Clark helps Fever become first WNBA team with a million followers on a social-media platform

How impressive is Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark? Just a few games into his second WNBA season, Clark is finding ways to set records off the court.

Thanks — in part — to Clark, the Fever are the first WNBA team to reach one million followers on a social-media platform. The team shared that accomplishment Monday, saying its Facebook page reached one million followers.

That's quite the accomplishment. By comparison, the Fever have 218.7K followers on Twitter and and 700K followers on Instagram, so that Facebook figure is significant. The defending champion New York Liberty have just 246K followers on Facebook and the Las Vegas Aces, which won back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023, have 592K followers on Facebook.

Clark isn't the only reason for the Fever's excellent following, but she's undoubtedly played a big role in the team's popularity. After a slow start to her rookie season, Clark exploded onto the scene, averaging 19.2 points and 8.4 assists in her first year in the WNBA. That was enough to earn Clark the Rookie of the Year award and a selection to the All-WNBA first team. She also finished fourth in the MVP voting.

Clark has only played one game in her second season, but it looks like she's made big strides already. Clark picked up a triple-double against the Chicago Sky, dropping 20 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds in the 93-58 win. It was Clark's third career triple-double.

Things are looking up for both Clark and the Fever. Now that she's used to the WNBA, the sky is the limit for Clark after a tremendous rookie year. As for the Fever, they stand to benefit in multiple ways. Clark's success not only make the franchise much better on the court, but — as the Facebook numbers show — it also provides a pretty significant boost away from the court.
