Bryson DeChambeau has a strategy as it relates to Rory McIlroy and the upcoming Ryder Cup.
“I'll be chirping in his ear this time,” the LIV golfer, 31, told PEOPLE at the Happy Gilmore 2 New York premiere on Monday, July 21. “Now, if we go up against each other, I mean, you can be sure of it.”
DeChambeau added laughing, “I'll get into his ear a little bit.”
The two rivals, who famously had a back-and-forth at the Masters in April, are both set to compete at Bethpage Black in Long Island, N.Y. in September.
In April at Augusta, the golfers were paired together during the final round of the major — which McIlroy finally clinched — with DeChambeau fading along the final stretch to finish tied for fifth.

But after the tournament, it was DeChambeau’s comments about McIlroy, 36, that made news.
“[He] didn’t talk to me once all day,” DeChambeau said at the time. “He wouldn’t talk to me.”
McIlroy later offered his own side, telling reporters that “everyone approaches the game different ways.”
“Yeah, like I was focused on myself and what I needed to do,” the five-time major champion said at the time. “That’s really all that it was. It wasn’t anything against him or against — it’s just I felt that’s what I needed to do to try to get the best out of myself that day.”
DeChambeau, an SMU alum, was selected to the Ryder Cup’s U.S. team after an impressive rally over the weekend at the Open Championship in Northern Ireland, where he tied for 10th.
"If I would've played well the first round, I would've had a chance to go up against Scottie [Scheffler] and go head to head, and that was the whole goal and didn't happen," DeChambeau told PEOPLE on Monday night. "But the last three rounds, I played some stellar golf. I didn't give up, gave it all I had, and showed the fans that you never give up."
And the golfer's success is drawing notice from his peers.
“Bryson is going to be a very important piece to us winning the Ryder Cup,” Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley told Sports Illustrated on Sunday, July 20. “He brings so much. He brings energy, passion but most importantly, he’s one of the best players on the planet.”
