Browns reveal plans for Week 3 starting QB amid Joe Flacco vs. Dillon Gabriel controversy

The Cleveland Browns' quarterback situation is going about as well as many anticipated it would.

Entering Week 3, there are already questions for head coach Kevin Stefanski about whether a QB change will be made.

Stefanski is sticking with his guns, though. He told reporters on Monday that Joe Flacco will remain QB1 for the difficult Week 3 clash with the Green Bay Packers.

It's not entirely surprising, because it'd be cruel to send rookie Dillon Gabriel out there for his first NFL start when Micah Parsons and the humming Packers defense are on the other side.

But it's also a tough spot for Cleveland to be in.

Flacco's mobility was never great, but now at 40 years old, his inability to move limits what the Browns can do with their offense.

Cleveland isn't throwing down the field much, and on Sunday, the Ravens just dropped most of their defenders back into coverage because they knew Flacco would just stand back there, not move much and look to pass regardless of how much space may have been in front of him.

Gabriel showed promise on his lone drive, long after the game had been decided, when he came on in relief and threw a touchdown to rookie RB Dylan Sampson.

That was a positive for the Browns, but it likely didn't change their evaluation or plan with Gabriel.

He'll see a chance to start at some point. The Browns owe it to themselves to play Gabriel and potentially Shedeur Sanders this season to know if they provide anything worth keeping heading into a likely first-round QB pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.

But for now, Flacco will remain the No. 1 quarterback, and Gabriel and Sanders will keep on watching from the sideline.
