Gabe Taylor, the younger brother of the late former Washington Redskins' great Sean Taylor, agreed to terms on a free-agent contract with the Commanders after going undrafted.
There will be another jersey with the name Taylor embroidered on it roaming the secondary this preseason for the Washington Commanders.
Gabe Taylor, the younger brother of the late, great safety of the Washington Redskins, has agreed to terms with the Commanders on a free agent contract. The former Rice standout was not drafted in the seven-round draft which concluded on Saturday.
Taylor had a great day at his Pro Day and impressed scouts by busting out a best 4.38 40-yard dash. He was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine so he used his Pro Day at school for his chance to shine one last time for the scouts.
Taylor said he was raw, but that he can compete and be molded to be the player he needs to become.
"A diamond in the rough," Taylor said, via Aaron Wilson. "A person that's going to come in and compete. I don't care about being a superstar. ... I want to be the best role player I can be."
Taylor is a bit undersized for a safety. He checks in at 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds. Perhaps with an offseason program and training camp he can bulk up and add some weight to his frame.
He spent five years at Rice and became a leader on the defense. That is what is to be expected from Sean Taylor's little brother. He is very vocal and is a true Commander in the secondary.
“A person that's vocal, not afraid to be vocal,” he said. “I like to be accountable. Anything I can do to make the team improve.”
Taylor knows one thing is for sure. He has an opportunity to make a name for himself in the city where his brother shined.
“I’m just doing my thing. A lot of comparisons to him but if that’s the only comparison I’ve got then that’s okay," Taylor said. "I’ll do the best I can.”
