Barcelona vs PSG likely to be played at Montjuic and not at Spotify Camp Nou – report

Barcelona are racing against the clock to return to the Spotify Camp Nou as soon as possible. After hosting Valencia at Estadi Johan Cruyff, the club have accepted that the game against Getafe will also be played there.

However, pending approval of the Final Works Certificate (CFO), set to be submitted this week to the Barcelona City Council, the club remain hopeful of securing First Occupancy Licence in time for the Real Sociedad match on 28 September.

If they do not receive the green light, the game would likely be played at Estadi Johan Cruyff again, given that Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys at Montjuic is ruled out for that date due to a musical concert.

Barcelona vs PSG very likely at Montjuic

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, as things stand, Barcelona’s first home game of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League – against PSG on 1 October – is very likely to be played at the Montjuic stadium.

The First Occupancy Licence only covers an initial phase with a capacity of 27,000 spectators, distributed between the south stand and the main stand.

But UEFA regulations require the lateral stands to be operative as well, something that is planned for the second phase of the Camp Nou reopening with a minimum of 45,000 spectators.

At the moment, Barcelona practically assume that it will not be ready in time for the second phase. As such, the La Liga champions consider it almost certain that the match against Luis Enrique’s PSG will be played at Montjuic.

Although UEFA’s current regulations are explicit and strict in stating that a team must play the entire group stage in the same stadium where it begins the competition, Barcelona are likely to be given leeway owing to the special circumstances.

As such, the club’s aim is to have authorisation to play at Camp Nou from the third match of the UCL group stage, against Olympiacos on 21 October.
