Barcelona star crushes transfer speculations by confirming 'intention' after La Liga win

Barcelona secured an impressive 6-0 win against Valencia in their fourth La Liga match of the campaign on September 14, at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.

Fermin Lopez, along with Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski, each scored a brace, bringing in the victory that took Barcelona to rank second in the La Liga table with 10 points.

Lopez was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea until the summer transfer deadline day, and amid those speculations, Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick candidly mentioned that he would prefer the Spaniard to continue with the Catalan club.

"At the moment he is here. I spoke with him. I'm convinced that he will stay, but in the end I don't know what happens. We have to wait. I am really happy when the market is closed. I told him my opinion, but it's between him and me. Sometimes players have other thoughts. Around the players are also a lot of people, who know maybe more than we know," as per ESPN.

"It's a big business. I have to focus on my team and I am really happy Fermin plays for Barça. He's a really important player for us. He showed that last season. His style is different to other players. He can help us a lot."

Lopez, who appears to be living up to Flick's expectations, has now opened up about the transfer rumors while stating what his 'intention' is at Barcelona.

What did Barcelona star Fermin Lopez say?

While speaking after the victory, Lopez dismissed the rumors of him considering a move away from Barcelona, mentioning he will 'fight' for his place at the Spanish giants for 'many years' and said,

"It's true that I've been calm. Not everything that's been said is true, I don't want to get into that. My intention has always been to be here for many years. I never had any doubts. There was always speculation, but I've always wanted to be here, and I'll fight to be here for many years," as per SPORT.

The 22-year-old also shared his thoughts on the match and added,

"The first goal was a great team move, a great assist from Ferran, and I was able to score. For the second, I received the ball between the lines, tried a shot from outside the box, and it went in. It was a difficult match at the beginning, but the whole team was on form and the score reflects that. We took advantage of our opportunities. It’s true that we felt very good, just like we did last year."

Lopez's display was also hailed by Flick, who claimed that the midfielder is 'on the right track,' and said,

"For me, his performance was a big step forward, that's exactly what I expect from him. He can still improve and become more composed, but he's on the right track," as per OneFootball.

Flick & Co. are now headed to face Newcastle United in their opening game of the 2025-26 Champions League on September 18 at St. James' Park.
