The Baltimore Ravens have now dropped 30 or more points in each of their first three games to start the 2025 season, but a 30-point effort wasn't good enough against the Detroit Lions on Monday night.
That's because the Ravens' defense failed spectacularly against a firing-on-all-cylinders Lions' offense that dropped 38 points and 426 total yards.
The Lions showed impressive balance, also, with quarterback Jared Goff throwing for 202 yards and the duo of running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery totaling 218 yards on the ground (Goff had six, also).
The Ravens have now scored 111 points this season, which is the highest three-game mark in NFL history for a team with a losing record, according to ESPN's Jamison Hensley. The Ravens fell to 1-2 after their loss to Detroit.
The game was close throughout, but the Lions took control in the fourth quarter after Derrick Henry's crucial fumble gifted Detroit a field goal.
After a Ravens punt, the Lions put together a 70-yard touchdown drive that was capped off by Montgomery's electric 31-yard touchdown run.
Montgomery was gashing the Ravens all night long. He also had another long gain of 72 yards and finished with two touchdowns in total, as did Gibbs.
The defense has now been a major issue in two of the Ravens' three games this season. Lest we forget, 40 points wasn't good enough in the crushing loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 1.
Baltimore does have reason to hope that things will get better, though, as the team was missing three key starters in Jaire Alexander, Nnamdi Madubuike and Kyle Van Noy, all of whom were inactive due to injury.
The Ravens need to get those guys back, and fast.
