Avalanche Make Historic Nathan MaKinnon Announcement on Monday

Nathan MacKinnon added to his impressive hockey resume Monday night, as the Colorado Avalanche battled the Dallas Stars in Game 5 of a Stanley Cup playoffs series.

The reigning Hart Memorial Trophy winner made things happen in the second quarter of the contest, assisting on an Artturi Lehkonen goal that put Colorado on the board before lighting the lamp for Colorado's second score of the evening.

With his helper on Lehkonen's goal, MacKinnon became the Avalanche's No. 3 all-time postseason leader in assists.

"Nathan MacKinnon with the sweet postseason apples," posted Colorado on its official X account as a caption for a graphic commemorating the 29-year-old forward's incredible milestone.

MacKinnon's assist to Lehkonen was his 68th all-time in the playoffs, breaking his tie with former Avalanche star and current Stars forward Mikko Rantanen. Meanwhile, Avalanche legends Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg remain No. 1 and No. 2 on the list with 100 and 97 playoff assists, respectively.

MacKinnon entered the fifth game of the Avalanche-Stars series with four goals and an assist for five points. Back in the 2024-25 NHL regular season, the Stanley Cup champion had 32 goals and 84 assists for 116 points across 79 games for the Avalanche, who finished third in the Central Division with 102 points on the strength of a 49-29-4 record.
