The Houston Astros have been one of the most injured teams in baseball this season. From their season-ending injuries to a plethora of starting pitchers to the large absences of Josh Hader, Yordan Alvarez, and Jake Meyers, it's been an injury-riddled season in Houston.
One of the more noteworthy injuries has been the loss of Isaac Paredes. The Astros' All-Star third baseman was feared to have suffered a season-ending hamstring injury, and in the time since he's been out, the offense has struggled.
But, as Jim Bowden of The Athletic shared on Twitter/X, Astros general manager Dana Brown revealed a very encouraging update on Paredes amid his injury recovery. The update could have the All-Star third baseman back in the lineup before the season comes to a close.
Astros' Isaac Paredes closing in on return to team
"Isaac Paredes #Astros is taking BP in the minors and starting to heat up according to GM Dana Brown," Bowden reports. "Could be back by the Seattle series if he progresses."
Isaac Paredes #Astros is taking BP in the minors and starting to heat up according to GM Dana Brown...could be back by the Seattle series if he progresses...Paredes could DH; Alvarez LF and Altuve 2B
— Jim Bowden⚾️ (@JimBowdenGM) September 14, 2025Not only is this an encouraging update for Paredes, that he's partaking in batting practice, but that he's also closing in on a return. If the Astros could get Paredes back soon, amid a tight division race, it could be a huge deal.
Bowden alludes to Paredes returning for the Seattle Mariners series, which begins on Friday, September 17th, in Houston. With the Mariners and Astros tied atop the AL West, and with the Texas Rangers hot on their tail, it's a massive series for both teams.
If Houston were to get Paredes back in time for the Mariners series, it'd be a massive boost to the team's offensive approach. Even if it takes a little longer, the fact that he's close to making a return is incredible news.
The only question is, once he returns, how do the Astros set the lineup? Bowden mentions that the Astros could have Paredes be the team's designated hitter, while Alvarez takes over in left field, and Jose Altuve starts at second base.

This way, the Astros would have Carlos Correa, Christian Walker, Altuve, Jeremy Pena, Paredes, Meyers, Alvarez, and either Cam Smith or Jesus Sanchez in the starting lineup.
That revamped lineup would be huge for the Astros, especially with the division so tight heading into the final couple of weeks of the season.
Before hitting the injured list, Paredes had a .259 batting average with 19 home runs and 50 RBIs and an .829 OPS in 94 games played. He was having one of the best seasons of his career and was proving the Astros right for acquiring him and Smith for Kyle Tucker in the offseason.
He landed on the injured list shortly after the All-Star break and has missed over two months of play. But now, with this report from Brown and Bowden, it looks like the Astros might be getting Paredes back in the Majors in he regular season.
