Arizona women’s basketball to join men’s Red-Blue Showcase

The 2025-26 Arizona women’s basketball team

Most of Arizona’s major sports have some form of intrasquad scrimmage in front of fans. Football has the spring game. Soccer, volleyball, and men’s basketball have the Red-Blue game. Even softball added a Red-Blue scrimmage to its fall schedule this year. That leaves women’s basketball as one of the few major sports without a similar event.

The Wildcats will take one step closer this year. The program announced that it would join the Arizona men’s basketball Red-Blue Showcase for a 3-point shooting contest.

It’s not the first time the women’s team has been part of exhibition events held for the men. In the early part of the 21st century, Arizona women’s basketball would occasionally hold autograph sessions at the men’s scrimmages. This will be the first time they actually take the floor and engage in a demonstration of their own basketball skill, though.

The event takes place on Friday, Oct. 3 at 5:45 p.m. MST in McKale Center. It will be streamed on ESPN+.

Arizona women’s basketball starts its season with an exhibition against West Texas A&M on Thursday, Oct. 23. The games start counting on Thursday, Nov. 6 when the Wildcats host UC Riverside. Arizona will play its entire exhibition and nonconference season at home.
