Chelsea were the first big club really interested in Dean Huijsen and wanted the defender in January according to his agent Ali Barat.
The Blues were strongly linked with Huijsen in the early part of the summer, after a series of impressive performances for Bournemouth.
However, when Real Madrid entered the race the Blues were fighting a losing battle to convince the Spain international to make the switch to Stamford Bridge.

Huijsen eventually made the switch to the La Liga giants after they activated the £50m release clause in his contract.
The 20-year-old had interest from a number of Europe’s top clubs and his agent Barat has revealed Chelsea were the first big club interested.

“Chelsea wanted him [Huijsen], even since January,” he said as quoted on X.com.
“They were the first big club really interested, but Bournemouth didn’t want to sell in January, and his release clause wasn’t active then, only in the summer.”
Chelsea didn’t end up signing a centre back, even after they lost Levi Colwill to an ACL injury, and it looks like they are a bit short of quality in that department.
Chelsea short at centre back?
The loss of Colwill was a big blow given his importance to the team, and how good his form was at the back end of last season and through the Club World Cup.
Enzo Maresca stated publicly more than once he wanted another centre back, but that didn’t happen and he will have to make do with the options he’s got until January at the earliest.
